Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the strategic direction of the Access China market entry program through the Representative Office in Shanghai, driving export opportunities, and developing strategies that initiate export activities between Victoria, Australia, and China, as well as the use of serviced office facilities, provided under the Program, and arrange provision, where appropriate, of interpreter support to clients.
  • Assist Victorian companies to plan and execute their market development activities into Chinese markets through the provision of tailored market intelligence, development of business leads, provision of advice and introductions, vetting of partners, participation in trade shows, business matching, and by supporting exporters to enter markets in the region, facilitating opportunities and minimizing risk.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with stakeholders and government officials, with the view to assist Victorian exporters overcome hurdles involved in gaining market entry, and maintain and strengthen Victoria’s market position by developing strategic relations with business leaders in the region.
  • Develop effective business networks, including key allies such as Austrade, chambers of commerce and industry associations able to support the market entry activities of Victorian companies utilizing the Representative Office.
  • Provide liaison between the Victorian Government and the Shanghai/China markets in order to coordinate Ministerial visits, Trade Missions and other visiting outbound/inbound delegations, including logistics and on-the-ground arrangements, planning, developing detailed itineraries, meetings, presentations, follow up and guidance.
  • Research and prepare industry reports for publication both through the Victorian Export Network (VEN) website and directly to Victorian companies, manage related online project focused forums and provide high quality reports and advice on the operation and delivery of the Access.

 

Qualifications 

This position has the following specific requirements:

  • to work reasonable additional hours, including evenings, weekends and occasional overnight travel, to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the position are adequately performed.
  • a requirement to travel within China and on occasion, internationally.
  • to display high levels of integrity, governance and accountability.

Employment Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be a Chinese citizen.
  • Applicants will be subject to a probationary period.
  • All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Police Records Check which will comply with the 100 point Proof of Identity Check.

The following experience and skills are highly desirable:

  • a relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce or Business from a recognized institution.
  • experience in a regional business development role, particularly in China.
  • excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian environments, in particular experience working in Australia or with Australian-based organisations.
